Wednesday Accelerated RN to BS Option

About the Option

The Wednesday Accelerated RN to BSN Option provides a unique opportunity for both RNs who are employed full-time and new RN graduates to obtain a BSN within a workable time frame. Nursing classes are held on Wednesdays only and are sequenced within an 18 month period with the summer off. Select nursing courses offer a hybrid-online schedule.

For RNs seeking added flexibility, a fully online RN to BSN track is tentatively planned for 2014.

Summary of Requirements

The RN to BSN Option consists of 25 credits of upper division nursing courses and 39 transfer credits in nursing based on a current nursing license (awarded after successful completion of the first two upper division nursing courses). The nursing curriculum builds on your prior education and your experience as an RN, allowing you to achieve a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in less than two years. Academic lecture, clinical experience, and hybrid-online learning, are combined to engage you in intense academic study and hands-on learning that stresses critical thinking, decision-making, and interpersonal communication with clients and their families.

Your studies at Dominican College will include the following courses: Pathophysiology; Principles of Health Assessment; Professional Practice Concepts; Family Health Nursing; Nursing Research; Community Health Nursing; Nursing Leadership/Management and a Nursing Seminar that focuses on professional development.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing requires a minimum of 131 credits. Liberal arts and science and general education requirements may be completed in an accelerated online, day or evening, or weekend schedule. At least 30 credits must be completed at Dominican College. Transcripts from previous colleges and universities are reviewed and from 70 to 90 credits may be transferred for previous coursework. Students may also be eligible for CLEP (College Level Examination Program) credits in select social science courses.
