The development of the English language from Anglo-Saxon to modern English. Modifications in grammar, spelling, and vocabulary illustrated by readings in the literature of each period: Biblical passages, selections from Chaucer, Renaissance, 18th-century, and modern authors. Pre-requisite: EN 113.
