Dominican College One of Two Institutions State-wide to Receive Intensive Teacher Institute Grant.

Dominican College is one of only two institutions state-wide to receive an Intensive Teacher Institute grant from the Office of Special Education of the New York State Education Department. New York is facing a critical shortage of teachers for students who are blind or who have visual impairments across the State. To address the need for more of these teachers (TVIs), the ITI-TVI is designed to provide tuition assistance to students and teachers interested in becoming TVIs.

The New York State Education Department has awarded $613,750 over 5 years to the program for teachers of students who are blind or visually impaired (TVI). This grant supports a tuition remission incentive of $310/credit for New York state teachers who are already certified and who seek to add on the TVI certificate. Eligible candidates must agree in writing to teach students who are visually impaired in New York for at least two years. The $310/credit is applicable to all 36 credits of a Master's degree, if the candidate is seeking a degree; it is applicable as well to those who are post-Master's and seek only the credits needed for the additional certificate.

For more information please contact the Coordinator of the TVI program at (845)848-4119.
