Debate Society Makes Good Showing in First Public Forum Debate of the Academic Year
This past Sunday, Dominican College hosted the academic year’s first tournament of the Public Forum Debate League. The tournament was attended by approximately 60 people and included competitors from six colleges and universities—Dominican College, CUNY Baruch, Farleigh Dickinson University, Passaic County Community College, SUNY Rockland, and Yeshiva University.
The PFDL is comprised of two divisions and two sets of awards are given in each division: team awards, based on the quality and strength of arguments made, and individual speaking awards, based on the quality of speaking presentation.
This event was the first competition for 60% of Dominican’s competitors in Sunday’s tournament. Their lack of experience did not hamper the team. Dominican College’s Ed Lange won his second round debate while competing solo against a two person team from Farleigh Dickinson University. In their first tournament, Dominican College’s Joe Dratch and Chris Bronson finished 4th in their division.
The Debating Society’s next tournament will be Sunday, October 28, 2012 at Farleigh Dickinson University.
