Men's Basketball Earns Program's First NCAA Tournament Appearance
The Dominican College men's basketball team has earned the
program's first appearance in the NCAA East Regional Tournament as was announced
by the NCAA last night. The Chargers have earned the fifth seed in the East
Regional and will take on the fourth seed, the University of New Haven.
The regional will be hosted by #2 Saint Anselm College and all games will be
played on the campus of #6 Southern New Hampshire University at the SNHU
Fieldhouse.
Dominican earned the fifth seed after posting an overall
record of 22-6 and a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) record of
15-3. DC won the CACC North Division Title and was the top seed in the north in
the CACC Tournament. The Chargers fell to the top seed in the south,
Philadelphia University, 71-68 in a CACC Semi-Final game.
The Chargers
became the first team in the East Region to reach the 20-win plateau this season
after topping Goldey-Beacom College, 89-69, on February 16th. DC also had a
10-game winning streak this season, which spanned late November through the
middle of January. Dominican made appearances in all three East Regional
Rankings this season in both the sixth and fifth spot.
DC will face New
Haven on Saturday, March 16th at 8:30 pm in an NCAA East Region Quarter-Final
matchup.
The other games will feature #3 Assumption College vs #6 Southern
New Hampshire University, the Northeast-10 Tournament Champions, at 12pm, #7
University of Bridgeport, the East Coast Conference winner, vs #2 Saint Anselm
College at 2:30 pm, #8 Bloomfield College, the CACC Tournament Champions vs #1
Franklin Pierce University at 6pm.
The Chargers have not faced the
University of New Haven in the 2012-2013 season. DC owns wins over Franklin
Pierce University, the University of Bridgeport and Bloomfield College, while
suffering a loss to Assumption College.
